Before I get into the rant, I want to thank everyone who emailed me with some advice on my Painter problem. It's nice to know that people love me other than just people I've met in real life. So far, Painter has been nice to me as long as I don't go over a certain file size. Perhaps I'll be brave to push it up a bit in the future, but for now, I'm going to keep things this nice size. Thanks again.
Nothing has made me laugh harder than the conversation Sue and our appartment mate had the other day. We're watching some crappy show about letting other folks into your house to redecorate a room in your house while you decorate a room in their house when out of the blue Sue proclaims, "ASIAN GIRLS ARE SO CUTE! WHY CAN'T I BE CUTE?" Our appartment mate gives a knowing nod and both of them proceed to compare notes on the cuteness of Asian women around the campus of the University of Maryland (oh, we live with another couple. This was a conversation with the other woman of the house). I was so shocked at first. I didn't know if I was supposed to be offended or not. Then I just burst out laughing.
So Monday night, when I was finishing up this strip, Sue asks what I'm doing. I explained that I wanted to do a strip on what she had said about Asian women a few weeks ago. And once again, Sue proclaims, "It's true! Just admit it! Asian girls are cute! I can't be cute! I can only be sexy! Tall white girls can only be sexy! You'd understand if you were a woman!" I fell on the floor and convulsed for a number of minutes. The tirade continued about the virtues of cuteness and of being small and Asian. I believe it ended with something to the effect of "Just wait. If we have daughters and they start complaining about how they can only be cute, you'll see! Just you wait you bastard!" More laughing and convulsing on my part and then I managed to drag myself to the machine to hack out this rant.
So now that I think about it, she's right. The proportion of cuteness in Asian women is substantially higher than the proportion of cuteness in White women. I don't know where this comes from, but from my own observations, this seems to be the current trend. Who'd have thunk it.
Yeah, um....I really don't have anything else. Usually, I'd have some clever retort or some factual evidence to rebuff my fiance's statements or some call to arms against the establishment. But really, I got nothing. Asian women are cute. That's just all there is. Sorry. I'll try to come up with something better next time.
