October 24 2001 Boy, content providers rarely know how to write for artists. Please, if you're going to write a story board remember who you're writing for. Chances are, the poor artist that has to draw your content isn't going to know the same things that a anal retentive business person will. Drawing for the business world sucks royally (though it can pay well). No big racial revelation in this one except to say that you should go and see Iron Monkey right now. I'm just setting things up for future strips. Just got back from San Fransisco on Monday and I learned quite a few things, the most important being that my grandfather is doing great. Not one to let any old heart attack slow him down, he still walks two mile every single day. That's more than I do a month now. He's affraid that if he stops walking, he'll keel over. He used to do tai chi every morning, but now just goes on the walks. San Fransisco is perfect for walking since everything is very close to where ever you are and it's got nice big hills. Yay grandpa. He may outlast us yet. There's a hobby shop that we drove past named Sazabi which won't make any sense to anyone but those who are familiar with Char's Counter Attack. Didn't have time to go in and check it out, but the window display seemed pretty cool. Public television station KTEH San Jose plays subtitled anime on Sunday nights. I was so happy and yet so jealous as I was watching Evangelion in glorious subtitles. Why can't MPT do that? I guess there aren't enough anime fans in Maryland yet. Boewing's 777 is a truly phenomenal airplane. Every seat now has its own personal back lit LED monitor with hours of programming to choose from. That's right, a luxury most often reserved for the first class muckety mucks is now accessible to all passengers on this new airplane. We could choose from evil Disney Cartoons, the Discovery Channel, and two or three movies. And there are foreign language equivolents. But wait, there's more. On the radio dial, there were many stations of music to choose from including a few hours worth of J-pop. Nothing beats listening to Japanese pop music some 4000 feet in the air. And the final cool thing about the plane ride home was the map feature. If you push the "map" button, you get to see a little animated plane fly over a map of the United States showing your exact position and a fun red line trailing behind the plane. It's like you're in an Indiana Jones movie. I also learned a few things that relate directly to the events of 9.11. San Fransisco International airport is much more crouded than Dulles International. We left out of Dulles right after they opened so we didn't see much of a line. But on the trip home out of San Fransisco, we were met by huge Disney World like lines sans cotton candy and "It's a Small World After All." The line to check in to get your boarding pass wasn't too bad. It zig zagged about four times back and fourth, not much longer than it used to be before the events. But after the check in line, you get to stand in the security line which snaked through almost two sections of the airport. The main terminal at SFO is kinda shaped like a donut with five major sections. The line to go through security went from the United section all the way to the international flight section. Big line. All in all, it was about a hour and a half of lines. I don't mind the lines. I don't mind waiting so that I can be safe on the planes. But the thing that did disturb me was at the security check point. The poor hack working the x-ray machine had no clue what he was doing. The ladies who worked to magic wands were constantly yelling at him to slow down and actually look at the x-ray screen. This did not inspire confidence. I don't know it that's the case everywhere, but I felt that this dude was not properly trained for his position. What did inspire confidence was the contingent of guards men in full camo hefting semi-automatic rifles on their shoulders. That's what I want to see in a security guard. My uncle asked me how people were feeling on the east coast. He said that people on the west coast were feeling a little fearful and apprehensive, perhaps wondering when they'll be attacked. I explained to him that although anthrax is certainly on everyone's mind, we're more pissed than scared. There was a protest against the war while we were visiting. Apparently, this is a common thing. There's a protest every weekend, but very little activity during the week. I guess a bunch of wannabe-hippy yuppies are looking for something to believe in or stand against and only have time no the weekend to express their views. Now, I don't have a problem with people protesting. I happen to think that war is the most horrible thing that humans can inflict on each other. Protests are fine as long as there is an alternate solution that is supported. I didn't hear any alternate solution. In fact, I have yet to hear an alternative to the bombings save that the bombings are wrong. I would be most welcome to an alternative solution. But I can't think of anything and I haven't heard anything that I would support. Ah well. Another day, another A. Thanks for watching. Be safe everyone. Got questions about this strip? Post them on our BBS.
The best place to find manga making stuff including manga paper and G pen nibs (which I use to ink)
