August 12 2001 Yessir! The new guy is none other than Loki from our message board! This marks the first time someone I haven't met in real life makes an appearance. Is he indeed "more than meets the eye" as his apparent transformer obsession implies? Tune in to find out. And I must appologize for the lateness of this strip. Not that anyone really reads it mind you, but I feel bad about not keeping my schedule. But I needed to take a break and get away so I went to Washington state to visit my brother and his wife. This was fun because me and James got a chance to really get to know my sister-in-law (who may make an appearance herself later). Since Mat was still working, Patti was stuck with entertaining the double trouble that is James and I. All in all, a very nice visit. James and I voted Patti the MVP of the trip. Thanks Patti and Mat ^_^ This weekend was a welcome change as well. Captain Apathy, James, Sue, and I headed up to Baltimore for Otakon, the largest anime convention on the east coast. As I understand it, the word "Otaku" in Japanese is the equivalent of the term "Fan Boy" in English. In other words an Otaku-Convention or Otakon is a convention for Fan Boys. I'm not sure if that's the word they were really looking for when naming the con, but it was still fun. Sue said that I was stalking Jo Chen which is technically not true. I wanted to get a sketch from her and ask her some art questions. Just take a look at her website and you'll see why I was excited to actually meet her. Her colors actually inspired me to learn painter. In person, she was very personable and even embarassed about some of her early work (got to see her sketch book). If you're looking to see her work in print, check out Wildstorm's Racer X mini series which she penciled and inked and her upcoming projects Darkminds volume 3 from Dreamwave Productions and Brain Stew from someone else. I also met Colleen Doran and Adam Warren. Colleen Doran is the writer and artist for A Distant Soil which I had never read until now. Still getting through the first collection so I'll not review it just yet, but I am impressed with what I'm reading. I saw her work a long time ago in the Robotech Art Book II. Adam Warren is an American manga style artist and he's very cool. If you see him at a con, you might even commission him to do a snazzy pic for you. He was also very personable and willing to talk to fans. He and Jo Chen ran a drawing workshop which was very inspirational even though they found out they were doing it the day they showed up to the con. There were the assorted dealer rooms and rooms showing anime. I think the one anime that we were having fun with was Investigator Conan. That's Conan as in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. James said it was sort of like those old Encyclopedia Brown stories we used to read as kids. My one regret was that I missed the web comic panel and the chance to see Pyro from the Mega Tokyo comic. PH33R M4 L33T N@KK3D SKILLZ! This Wednesday I'm going to debut a new weekly feature of my rants. It's sort of a way for me to redirect my negative energy of which I seem to have aquired a great deal of recently. It's black and white so it won't be too spectacular. And next Sunday, if I can pull it off, I'm going to have a Flash strip. Thanks for all the support those of you who actually read. Got questions about this strip? Post them on our BBS.
The best place to find manga making stuff including manga paper and G pen nibs (which I use to ink)
